*Before reading this post, please note that the English in this post is not a literal translation or word-for-word translation from my previous post in Japanese. As I was born and raised in Japan, my English sounds weird for a native speaker of English. Kindly note that in advance.
Anyway, as the title says, hello! This is ‘Tofu and Strawberries.’ The first memorable post in English is my self-introduction.
In my previous post in Japanese, I wrote “I’m wondering a lot what to call myself, ‘I,’ ‘tofu,’ or ‘strawberries'” in Japanese. But you know, the above sentence in English does not make sense at all, does it? Because, in English, I’m using the word ‘I’ to express myself without any hesitation. Now I understand that non-native speakers of Japanese face the challenge in learning Japanese subject. (But, for me, a non-native speaker of English, articles in English, such as ‘a’ or ‘the,’ are hard to manage well. I will probably make mistakes or already made in this post. Please tell me if any!)
Anyway, finally I will start my self-introduction! I am in my twenties, a female office worker (strictly speaking, a ‘freeter’ now).
I have some reasons why I decide to write this blog.
First, I love reading blogs, especially ones with thoughts or ideas that we typically keep to ourselves and ponder silently. (I cannot come up with the exact word corresponding to ‘心の声’ in English.) So, I must enjoy writing a blog too, don’t I? Right?
Second, I just want to learn about earning money by writing a blog. I’m still learning the system of making money with blogs. It will take a while until I can earn with this blog. (But, I hope I can soon.)
Third, becoming familiar with building a website or blog maybe help me in my job. (I wanna know about SEO or stuff like that.)
Fourth, I think writing a blog in English contributes to my study of English. But, I’ve realized that my English level is not enough to write a blog. So, while I will make my effort, I’m not going to translate every post to English. Whenever I feel like doing it, I will post an English version.
These four reasons inspired me to start writing a blog. Next, I will tell about the origin of this blog name, ‘Tofu and Strawberries.’
First of all, tofu and strawberries are both my favorite foods. So, when asked ‘what is your favorite food?’, I can say either ‘tofu’ or ‘strawberries.’ However, while ‘tofu’ is the answer that I pretend myself and utter, ‘strawberries’ is the answer that I speak from my pure core.
Why do I have these two answers to the question? In a word, why did I change my answer from ‘strawberries’ to ‘tofu.’ That is because one of my best friends kindly advised me not to answer ‘strawberries.’ She said that if I answered ‘strawberries,’ I would be perceived as a girl who acts cute. Until she advised me, I was not aware of this fact.
Then, why tofu?
Just after receiving her advise, there was a French lesson, where I had to fill in my favorite food in my textbook. If she hadn’t advised me, I would have written ‘les fraises,’ which means ‘strawberries’ in French, without any hesitation. But, I was not the same person I used to be, and at the moment, all I could come up with was the appropriate food, tofu. Yeah, my favorite food is tofu! That is not a lie! That is true! What a perfect answer it is!!!!! Actually, in my French textbook, I wrote ‘J’aime le tofu.’
Anyway, what I wanna say from this episode is that this blogger, me, is composed of the two aspect. One cares about what people think about me and then answers ‘tofu,’ while, another does not care about it at all, freely lives, and answers ‘strawberries.’
That’s all. I am ‘Tofu and Strawberries.’ I am very very very very very glad if anyone in the world reads this blog. I hope there will be (lots of) readers in the future. Then, see you until next post!
